Open Submission: peripheriesPOST

  • Gorey School of Art (map)

peripheriesPOST is the amalgamation of our mentoring programme peripheriesMEET with our curated annual exhibition Peripheries.

peripheriesPOST is an experimental and communitarian project that brings together artists who feel lost in the POST of art school, or isolated artists who just want to connect with other artists. We see this new project — POST all the things that have happened in the last few years — as an opportunity to facilitate a space that simulates art school, without grades or fees.

Facilitated by Emma Roche, James Merrigan and four invited artist mentors, 18 artists will be welcomed into a mentorship programme, where group activities and discussion will form a space of experimentation and co-authorship. Over time we hope the group of artists will form a shared community of ideas, feedback and art-making of their own making.

We will meet six times: End of October/ mid-December/ February/ April/ May/ and July for exhibition installation. They will be in-person meetings. However, when in-person is not workable, we will use online.

The processes and discussion during the mentorship programme will lead to a group exhibition at Periphery Space in July/August 2023. The exhibition will be a collaborative exhibition. The four invited mentor-artists will also participate alongside the mentor group in the exhibition, whether through existing works, work developed alongside the mentor group, or both.

The exhibition will be accompanied by a screen-printed zine that will act as documentation and feedback loop of the conceptual and formal processes that were approached and broached over the 8-month period of group discussion and art making.

We welcome submissions nationally; and previous peripheriesMEETers can apply.

DEADLINE: 15TH OCTOBER, 5PM
