“Third Wheel” is an open submission for three artists to propose an idea for an exhibition at Periphery Space for July 2022. The concept is based around ideas of awkwardness within groups, especially within the visual arts, where artists either work alone or form support groups that are based on survival rather than kinship.
We want three artists to come together and make an exhibition that is formally relational and conceptually cohesive. This should not be thought of as a group show of segregated individuals exhibiting alone within a group, but as a dialogue in the conception of the exhibition and the display of the work, together, in the gallery.
This could be an opportunity to make new work, or make contact and work with artists that you have an artistic affinity with in the development of an exhibition that is playful, experimental and outward looking in its consideration of its collaborators. We will be here to help with all the above in the realisation of the exhibition.
As artists, we like to think of Periphery Space as reflective of the processes and play that takes place in the art school that frames it. Please keep this context and ethos in mind when conceiving the exhibition with your collaborators.
What we need from you:
◾️3 images that represent each individual artist’s work
◾️300 word proposal to include exhibition concept and plan
*There will be a fee of €500 for each collaborating artist
SEND SUBMISSIONS DIRECTLY TO PERIPHERY.SPACE@GSA.IE BY 5PM MAY 1ST 2022.
