Wexford County Council in partnership with Creative Ireland and Gorey School of Art is delivering a series of Professional Development Workshops for artists based in Wexford County delivered by Curator and Cultural Consultant Eamonn Maxwell.
These professional development training workshops support artists in their practice and aim to address artists’ specific business needs working in a professional environment. Workshops will cover areas such as marketing, selling your art work, securing funding and gallery representation as well as individual mentoring sessions.
The workshops will be delivered in two venues: Wexford County Council, Carricklawn and Gorey School of Art.
Workshops at Gorey School of Art are as follows:
Workshop 1 - Individual Artist Mentoring Date: Friday 3rd November 2017Time: Each mentoring session will run for 45 minutes. (10.30am – 4.30pm)Venue: Gorey School of Art, Mary Ward Lane, St Michael's Road, GoreyPrice: €10Max 6 participants
One to one mentoring sessions with artists. Each artist will be asked to submit questions/topics in advance and the session will comprise discussion around your arts practice, promoting yourself/your work, selling your work, approaching galleries.
By the end of each mentoring session artists will have gained knowledge and information to help sustain their practice. Max 6 participants. You will be assigned a 45 min time slot for the day. If you have a preference for morning of afternoon please state, but this cannot be guaranteed.
Workshop 2 - Pricing and Selling your Artwork
Date: Friday 17th November 2017Time: 10:30am – 4pm (Lunch 1-2pm) Venue: Gorey School of Art, Mary Ward Lane, St Michael's Rd, GoreyPrice: €20 (includes light lunch and refreshments)
A practical workshop on ways for you to price your work for selling, commission or for funding applications etc. This workshop is aimed at artists at every stage of their career, from emerging too established. The participants will be shown examples of works in galleries/art fairs (Ireland and International) and will use these as a guide for pricing their own work. For lens based artists and printmakers, the area of editioning will also be explored.
Morning session will involve presentations by Eamonn Maxwell and the afternoon will be group discussion based. Each artist will present briefly on their practice and what they would like feedback on (max 10 minutes) and will receive feedback from Eamonn Maxwell.
Workshops 3 - Approaching Galleries for Representation

Having good commercial representation is goal for many artists. This workshop will look at the art market in Ireland and UK, the key players and how artists are best placed to approach these galleries. It will address key questions around this area, explore things you shouldn’t do, and the keys to success. Artists attending this workshop will already have a body of work, have exhibited in artist-run/public galleries and have graduated at least 5 years ago.
